I am at my wits end on Myah's progress. I am not sure if I am disappointed or frustrated. She has been home since August 2009 and in school since March 2009...Our home is language enriched , especially with 3 boys. Her comprehension is 100% on target. But her speaking ability is not there. She still points and grunts for things. When she tries to speak there is no positioning of the tongue. She has speech therapy at school and in a verbal class..if you ask me, I do feel that there is some medical reason why she is not able to form sounds..she talks by using the back of her throat. For instance...try saying the words "I love you" but dont use your lips or tongue..Thats what she sounds like. She is not saying "N", "L", "S","K" letters at all.
I had her tested for aproxia but they ruled that out...At the end of the day we are learning sign language so she has a vehicle for communication..but I am at a loss ..she seems stuck in a world by herself ....she sobs sometimes because I cant understand her and she cant say what she wants to say...she cries, I cry and I have reached out to every resource out there..and all I keep hearing is .."It will take time, she been through a lot of trauma and change"...Obviously they dont know my daughter..she is a survivor and has more drive than anyone I know..if she could..SHE WOULD DAMN IT !

Well, I'm finally getting around to checking my blog list - guess your scream reached all the way to Indiana! I so wish I had some great words of wisdom and advice for you, but I don't. What does come to mind is that your gut hasn't seemed to steer you wrong in the past. Continue to follow it. Do you think her hearing might have something to do with it? Just something I thought about - but trust me, I'm NO expert! Hang in there!
Please extend my excited congratulations to Mitchell. LOVE the cap and gown - it's just too cute!
Hey Jen,
I had her hearing tested, we had her tested for autism and everything under the sun.....
I trust my gut but where do I go from here and to who?
Glad you hear me loud and clear in Indiana....
Luv ya girl...
I'm hearing you here, too.
Just want you to know.
Hugs,
Vicki
I even Googled, "symptoms that mimic apraxia...and stuff like that".
Like my Googling is gonna help...
silly me.
