My sister Annette and I are 3 years apart. We are as different as night and day. I was the party girl and she was more conservative but down to earth. She never judged me but had a lot of eye rolling going on when we were growing up..especially when I pierced my nose and my bellybutton. But as we got older, we both eventually married ..We lead very different lives but are still connected to each other..thanks to the Italian guilt that was instilled in both of us very early on.
We fought, we patched up. We laughed at jokes that no one can understand. We said some of the meanest things to each other. We defended each other when others won't. We did some of the silliest things together and there's so many stories to be recalled when we are together.
Through some of the harshest times, we became muted to one another. Yet through it all, the coldness eventually thawed and melted away and we're right back to where we've left it, that is, like nothing has ever been missing...Our paths will always connect and I am extremely happy about that. I watch my sister with my children and I can say with confidence that only an Aunt can give hugs like a mother. So glad she is my sister !

I wish I had a sister so I could have the same connection that you have to yours.
