Diagnosis Discovered

So we havent made any progress with her speech until NOW !. We started Pet Therapy with Myah and she really made a connection with this Toy Yorkie. But nothing that made us raise an eyebrow to...We were just going through the motions as directed by our doctors. But soon we realized something earth shattering...When left alone with the dog she was able to have a full conversation, complete sentences...but when an adult entered the room she said a word here or a word there...

Diagnosis= Selctive Mutism. Her tongue becomes paralyzed when humans were around...

This didnt make much sense to me..I mean I heard her speak but only when spoken to. But the doctor gave me an understanding of how hard it was for her to speak by asking me to try to wiggle my ears....I mean I cant but if I try I can possibly move a few muscles for it to go up or possibly down but nothing that is remotely close to movement...Well thats kind of what Myah experiences when she is spoken to...A fear, an anxiety so intense that she completely is unable to talk..

But when left alone with an animal , in this case a yorkie , she was speaking freely...

Its a medical mystery if she will ever overcome this...Statistics does not show anything concrete on it..for every success story there are 4 stories behind that that isnt....

Making progress....baby steps..and I owe it all to a little canine friend...
