This week has been really tough on us as a family. My grandmother has lived with us since I was 17 yrs old. She has raised 6 children of her own and had the hardest life I could ever imagine. She was a farmer.
There has been many times when she wanted to give up on living. But when we started the adoption process we told her she couldn't die until we adopted a child..That day came and went...Then We told her that she had to stick around to see Myah come out of her 1st surgery..that day came and went....fast forward, we told her the same story for the next 12 surgeries..and she held on....
She is a fiesty woman who is 99 years old. She will be 100 years old in March...so I told her that she needs to hold on until March and make the 100 year mark...she turned to me and said.." if is was for someone else she would try but she simply didnt have it in her to hold on for herself"....
So needless to say she has taken a turn for the worst and is on morphine for her pain and we simply wait for her to be called by God. We have called the family in Italy and everyone is flying on on Oct. 20th and staying for a few months and sit by her side..
Until then we prepare the children and make collages and write a eulogy. I have never done this for anyone never mind the fact that she is still alive. She has held on long enough and we all nervously jump with every breath we hear...

Today marked 18 years since my grandmother went to be with the Lord. She died at 65. I was so mad because I wanted her to see me graduate from high school (because that was so important to her) but she just couldn't hold on. Today I sit here and think... if only she could have met my husband and kids. She would be so proud.18 years and I still cry when I think about her.... I miss her so much!!! You and your family are in my prayers. I am so glad she got to be part of Myah's life... and 99 years... what a wonderful life.
Rina, my heart goes out to you, too. My grandparents almost made 100, too. What precious memories we treasure! Like Kristy said, they still bring tears. Thank God for grandparents!!
