See you on the other side...

October 27, 2010
Chilling to hear the phone ring at 4am and know that its 'the call'....

My grandmother passed away...She was 99 years young, we expected it..we knew..we were prepared...but were we really? No...

Hit me like a ton of bricks..What do I tell the kids? How to I face my mother? Which poker face do I put on when I walk through their door...God called my bluff...I had no poker face, I was like a deer caught in headlights...Unprepared ...I AM NEVER UNPREPARED...it was unknown territory for me...not an eyeliner or tube of mascara could mask my face from the tears and hurt.
My mother and I decided we wanted to prepare the body..do her hair and dress her for the services..Again unprepared from the vision of her on a metal gurney, the incision on her neck from enbalming and the stiffness of her body..but the 2 of us went in and stood there like 2 blubbering children...both still wanting to prepare her the way we knew she would want ot be prepared. She was very picky about how her hair...
Tomorrow is the services and Saturday is the funeral...so many details left to be done..family flying in from all points and I seem to be chasing my tail..
Goodbye Nonna...see you on the other side...save a pair of pretty angel wings for me...

Mi manchi..tanti baci cara ....

Rina...and family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
No, you are never ready...not really...even if you've done everything you know to do to GET ready. It still HURTS!!! Everyone who has sent a loved one or friend on "ahead of us" knows that feeling. We love you guys. Please give your Mother a hug for us and tell her..."we care." I'm trusting our prayers will help in some way to ease the pain.
